Commit to Confidence

Updated: Mar 24, 2021

Let’s get ready to STUMBLE! Or should I say it’s time to COMMIT TO CONFIDENCE! In this day and age, we have to develop a firm trust in ourselves and our capabilities. You might be thinking to yourself, How can I achieve that? I’ll be honest, as I always am, finding your self-confidence can be a challenging task! Sometimes it takes years of coaching and soul-searching to get to a healthy place. I think it’s important to note that the journey to find your self-confidence comes with many twists and turns. Keep in mind that even those who seem to be the most confident struggle as well. This is a ride that we’re all in together. Together we can plug in and charge up our confidence!

I can specifically remember when I transitioned from the entertainment industry and advertising to packaged goods and product development marketing it was a significant shift in my career. I was so unaware of what I did not know and the competitive environment I had joined. When I looked at my schedule it was booked jam packed meetings from 9-5pm in 4 different buildings, but not one colleague would stop to Shepard me through the on boarding process. Sink or swim to say the least.. I knew I needed to rely upon my strengths to guide me through this experience, subconsciously.

At that time I had no idea my strengths were my deep ability to connect, be vulnerable and build trust. To ask the right questions to allow someone to be heard... I remember calling my sister and saying “I’m not sure I’m good enough” repeat that statement. That’s HUGE! She responded to me STOP you are amazing now get off the phone and show up you are just as good as any of your coworkers if not better because you are strong and determined. I decided I needed to find my allies to help me learn and thrive in this company. I scheduled 15 minute meet and greets with my entire team over 60 people so I could gain an understanding of their role and how My role integrated with theirs. It was the best thing I ever did as we both endeared ourselves to each other learning and growing together.

At this stage in my life I would never say that phrase I’m not sure I’m good enough! I know I’m valuable and have high self worth! I have all the tools within me to embark on any experience even when I don’t know the answers I will learn! We are all valuable enough and gifted in are unique and different ways it’s about owning our gifts and leveraging each other’s strengths. Listening, collaboration and communication. Confidence comes from stepping into uncomfortable spaces not playing it safe and challenging yourself to be vulnerable, make mistakes and learn from them to grow more knowledgeable. It comes from committing to the experience and bringing forward shared wisdom.

THREE Tips to Help Power Up Your Confidence -

1. Find Your Community - Did you know that according to a study done by Northwestern University and Notre Dame University, 75% of women in the workforce belong to a women’s group? Talk about women supporting women! One of the best tips that I give to anyone who is finding their self-confidence is finding your community. FIND YOUR TRIBE! If you’re wondering how you can find a fantastic, collaborative, supportive community, I’ve got the inside scoop! EmpowHer LA is hosting a Confidence Conversation Workshop on International Women’s Day Monday, March 8th! Let’s get together (virtually) to GROW as we celebrate each other.

2. Set Your Goals - We’ve talked about vision boarding and other ways of setting your goals, but how does this relate to self-confidence? Next time you participate in a meeting or event that challenges your confidence, try to remember why you are there. What is the purpose of the meeting? What are your qualifications? Run through these questions and answers in your mind (or write them down if that helps!). Try to visualize your purpose and then enact it! Prepare yourself mentally so that you are ready to go into any situation with full confidence in yourself.

3. Be Honest - You know what they say: Honesty is the best policy! I think we can take that a step further by being honest with ourselves. Sometimes it can be challenging to feel confident. Try to practice affirming your abilities. Take a look in the mirror and state the positive qualities that make you so powerful! If you don’t know where to start, try repeating these three affirmations: I am driven. I am a valuable member of my family/team/ friend group. I am worthy.

Regardless of where you are in your journey to find your self-confidence, I hope that these tips and tricks helped inspire you to keep moving forward. Sometimes we might experience bumps in our road, but always remember that you have a community of people ready to walk alongside you and help power up your confidence!
